Earnings Surprises and Guidance

Guidance drove stock reactions across much of the earnings season. According to StockStory, industrial equipment maker Kadant beat second-quarter expectations, but shares slid after quarterly revenue guidance fell short of market forecasts. Medical device maker LeMaitre Vascular (LMAT) also saw shares plunge 11.6% after revenue missed estimates, StockStory reported.

According to Investing.com, SSR Mining shares fell after second-quarter results missed market expectations. Meanwhile, Elon Musk's SpaceX posted revenue that beat expectations in its first earnings report since going public, multiple outlets reported. Shares nonetheless fell amid a combination of factors — an $18 billion AI investment plan, concerns over a lock-up expiration, and a $540 million unrealized loss on its Bitcoin holdings — according to CoinDesk and other outlets.

Novo Nordisk raised its annual guidance, yet shares fell regardless, Barron's reported. In the semiconductor sector, AMD posted record results but shares plunged 8%, weighing on investor sentiment toward related names including Micron and SanDisk, Stocks Down Under noted.
