Suro Capital CEO: 'This is fundamentally different from the 2020–21 bubble — Canva, WHOOP, and others in today's pipeline are built on real revenue'

The timing of IPOs for major private tech and AI companies — including SpaceX, OpenAI, and Anthropic — ultimately comes down to each company's own strategic judgment, according to a leading pre-IPO investor. Mark Klein, CEO of Suro Capital (SSSS), a firm specializing in private growth equity, told Investing.com on the 23rd that these companies will go public "when they determine that market conditions are optimal for their valuation and strategic objectives."

'Fundamentally Different from the 2020–21 Bubble'

Klein stressed that the current IPO pipeline is fundamentally different in character from the 2020–21 boom, which was followed by a sharp market correction driven by stretched valuations. Today's pipeline, he argued, is populated by companies with solid financial metrics and durable business models.

  • Canva — 265 million monthly active users, $4 billion in annual revenue
  • WHOOP — 100% year-over-year growth, Series G valuation of $10.1 billion

"These are companies with the structural scale to support their valuations."

Suro Capital NAV Gets a Lift from OpenAI Financing Round

Klein dismissed concerns that a wave of large-scale IPOs could drain market liquidity. As evidenced by OpenAI's recent financing round, he said, "there is ample capital on the sidelines ready to be deployed into high-quality assets."

Suro Capital's net asset value (NAV) is expected to rise to $14.00–$14.50 per share as of March 31, 2026, boosted by the OpenAI financing round and the close of WHOOP's Series G.

'Sell After Lock-Up Expiry — That's the Playbook'

Suro Capital's appeal lies in its ability to offer investors exposure to large pre-IPO companies while retaining the liquidity of a publicly traded stock. Klein explained that the firm's strategy is to exit portfolio positions after a company goes public, once the lock-up period expires and share prices have stabilized.
